Smallpox disease found in small cattle!


Sheep-goat smallpox was detected on two animals at two farms in Gazimağusa(Famagusta), on Friday evening.

The relevant units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources took measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
Gazimağusa, Tuzla (Enkomi), and Güvercinlik (Acheritou) livestock areas have been quarantined.

6 animals identified at the two farms were sedated, culled, and buried.
Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz said that the disease was detected at two working places at the Organized Livestock Zone in Gazimağusa and that they declared quarantine in the 3 regions to prevent the disease from spreading.

Oğuz noted that the quarantine includes 240 businesses and 15 thousand sheep and goats, 24 businesses, and 1200 cattle.

VACCINE IS BEING SENT FROM TÜRKİYE

Oğuz said that consultations were held with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye within the scope of the fight against the disease adding that 20 thousand vaccines from Türkiye will be sent to North Cyprus this evening. Oğuz noted that the vaccination of the animals will start tomorrow.
