Gürcafer “Gangs are engaged in human trafficking”

Head of the Turkish Cypriot Contractors Association, Cafer Gürcafer announced that around 5-10 thousand people in the country violate the Labour Law by bringing workers to North Cyprus in return for commission, and earn between 1000 and 3000 Euros from each worker.

Among the 5-10 thousand people mentioned, Gürcafer stated that as well as his son, public employees, university employees, the workers themselves, police officers and journalists, sign a letter of commitment.

Pointing out that there are some gangs in North Cyprus, Gürcafer emphasized that groups in partnership with foreign and local people infiltrate into companies and offer to smuggle them to the south of Cyprus.

“This is a police incident. What needs to be done is to enact the Agency Law as soon as possible.” Gürcafer was cited as saying.

Gürcafer emphasized that the majority of people in the Purnara Refugee Camp in South Cyprus are workers brought to the north and are being subjected to human trafficking.
