173 out of 200 villages in North Cyprus have dried up this year!


173 of 200 villages have dried up in North Cyprus this year.
It was revealed that approximately 600 thousand decares of agricultural land have been affected by drought this year.
The General Agricultural Insurance Fund Manager İpek Kızılduman announced that approximately 400 million TL will be paid for approximately 600 thousand decares affected by drought.
Speaking to Kıbrıs Newspaper, Kızılduman said that the map displaying the drought-affected areas will be submitted to the approval of the Council of Ministers.

8 THOUSAND PRODUCERS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY DROUGHT

Kızılduman said that the damage caused by drought was detected in 173 of 200 villages and that approximately 8 thousand producers were affected by the drought.
Kızılduman said, “Drought damage has affected almost all producers dealing with crop production.

“THREE-QUARTERS OF THE COUNTRY IS AFFECTED BY DROUGHT”

Head of the Farmers’ Union Mehmet Nizam said that while 70-80 thousand tons of barley and wheat crop was obtained in previous years, 24 thousand tons of product was produced last year and only 12 thousand tons of product this year.
Nizam said, “It is obvious that 3/4 of the country is drought. It is evident from the yield how serious the drought is.

“PRODUCERS ARE OBJECTING TO THE DROUGHT MAP”

Head of the Farmers’ Union Mehmet Nizam stated that the map displaying the areas in drought was examined by the farmers’ union. Nizam noted that as part of the feedback he received from the producers, some regions on the map were not marked as drought areas and that regulations should be made regarding drought degrees.
